Seminar on “Disaster Management Education: PSTU Activities and Initiatives” November 12 is a memorable day for Bangladeshi people as they lost more than 3, 00,000 relatives in cyclone, struck on this day in 1970. In this day Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) organized a seminar on “Disaster Management Education: PSTU Activities and Initiatives” in collaboration with Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP), MoFDM. Professor Nazrul Islam, Honorable Chairman of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh attended this Seminar as chief guest and underscored the need for development of professionals in Disaster Management, food and nutrition, and housing. Professor Nazrul admired the initiatives of PSTU for launching Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Disaster Management for the first time in Bangladesh. He also memorized the dreadful devastation and requested the civil society to commemorate this day nationally. Professor Nazrul Islam also award certificates among the Trainees and the Resource persons of 5 (five) day-long Professional Training on Disaster Management. Professor Dr. Atful Hai Shibli, hon’ble member of UGC, addressed the occasion and highlighted the need for opening B. Sc. (Hons.) in Disaster Management programme in this university, the core centre of disaster prone area of Bangladesh Mr. Md. Abdul Wazed, joint secretary (Disaster Management). MoFDM was also present in this seminar as special guest.
Professor Dr. Syed Sakhawat Husain, Vice Chancellor, Patuakhali Science and Technology University was the chief patron of the programme.
