The Patuakhali Science and Technology University Act was indeed significant in establishing Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) in Bangladesh. It was enacted in the parliament on 26 February 2002, under the leadership of the then Honorable Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. This legislation was a key step in formalizing the establishment of the university, aimed at advancing education, research, and technological development in the country.
In 1979 it was then turned to Patuakhali Agricultural College under the affiliation of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh with the objective of producing agricultural graduates offering the B.Sc.. (Hons.) degree.
The Patuakhali Science and Technology University was developed at the private initiative of the local people through the establishment of a higher secondary institute in 1972 as a private college
