Welcome to the Department of Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics at Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Bangladesh.

The department was established in 2003 when known as the Department of Medicine and Surgery. In 2013 the name of the department was modified and named as Department of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics. This Department comprised the veterinary Medicine, Surgery, and Theriogenology.

The Department has a group of competent and dedicated academicians and other supporting staff for developing this department gradually. The postgraduate program of the Department commenced in 2013 and offers Master degree in Medicine (MS in Medicine), Theriogenology (MS in Theriogenology), and Surgery (MS in Surgery).

Objectives

The primary objective of the department is to transmit teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in DVM, MS, and PhD degree programs. Apart from this, the department provides clinical and extension services to all kinds of dairy and poultry farmers and pet animal owners. Last, but not least, the department has a very expert team any clinical work and conducting trainings and workshops for field veterinarians, farmers, and different stakeholders of the livestock industries. The department creates an inclusive environment for the graduates and faculties to interact, enhance capacity building, and strengthen the postgraduate program under the platform of Theriogenology, Medicine, and Surgery.

Research interests

The department has set different research priorities based on current field demand and problem-orientated research approaches that could be conducted by post-graduate students:

ü  Advanced reproductive biotechnology

ü  Reproductive herd health management

ü  Reproductive nutritional management

ü  New surgical approaches for large and small animals

ü  Application of advanced diagnostic technologies and therapeutic approaches for veterinary medicine

ü  Antimicrobial applications for veterinary medicine

Vision

ü  To recognize and distinguish units in the veterinary field.

ü  To make a centre of excellence in teaching, research, and training for veterinary graduate students.

Mission

ü  To educate students for a better understanding of professional life, practicing the veterinary field, for the advancement of knowledge and technology of veterinary medicine, and for finding solutions at the national and international level in livestock.

ü  To create and maintain programs of excellence in the areas of research, education, and public outreach. With a high standard for excellence in all three areas, the department will produce students who are knowledgeable in this area and can think critically.

 

As a chairman of this department, I am inspired by my colleagues and students. I am pleased with the ways that we as a department work individually and collectively to generate research that matters, and to produce and share information that helps our students to effectively engage society as competent and engaged global citizens, as well as successful and satisfied professionals.
